Cherry Blossom Festival – Washington, DC

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. PLEASE READ MY DISCLOSURE FOR MORE INFO.

On April 13, the melting pot of individuals, camera feens, bloggers, and tourists alike flooded the Districts monument lined streets to celebrate a bloom. The Cherry Blossom season in Washington, DC is very short and beautifully sweet, usually only lasting a week. I’ve lived here for 10 years and at 24 this is the first year I’ve finally been able to make it at the peak of blooming season…and on complete chance of course! We left for Jamaica at the beginning of what is usually peak week for the trees; but with this crazy bipolar winter the season peaked a week late. Landed Saturday, rested Sunday, and headed into DC Monday with mama bear as my touristy companion.

As you can imagine parking is like finding a tiny gap between a line of ants, if all the ants drove SUVs and had road rage. It is pure luck and more than likely 30minutes of driving around waiting for someone to leave. Try and get there as early as possible! The best places to park is anywhere along the Tidal Basin circumference and East Potomac Park. This allows the perfectly planned out walk to see every bit of the Cherry Blossoms and monuments. The tree bundles are separated into three groups (they all seamlessly blend together); the Tidal Basin Loop, the Hains Point or East Potomac Loop, and the Memorial Loop, covering about 9miles in gorgeous fluffy Cherry Blossoms. You can check out each  look on the NationalParkService site. We opted for walking the entire thing, once you start you won’t even notice how far you’ve walked and each block is absolutely breath taking. I think it’s the same feeling I would have walking through a forest of Truffula Trees. (Look it up)

I know this post is a little late, but hey, why not send out another reminder of this must see attraction in Washington, DC. If you don’t live close and you’re planning a trip to DC definitely plan around the week of April 4th (the average peak bloom date) and check the year your coming as there are always updates on the potential bloom date of that year. Winter in miserably cold, summer is miserably hot, but Cherry Blossom Spring Peak Season…PERFECT.
