Three Generations, Tacos, and a Tiki Bar

“I have more fun than most people.” – Grandma

Have you ever watched a movie with Betty White and been like damn, I wish she was my grandma? Well, my grandma is 80 and still going to casinos, one of the funniest people I know, and straight out of L.A. Let’s just say I’ve never have to wish for anyone else because I’ve got myself my own Betty White. This cocktail of humor and blunt honesty is a gem that lives much too far away so I was really excited for her trip from the west to the east coast this past weekend. She flew in for her yearly grand and great grandchildren trip around the east coast, visiting and spreading her love to each house and family. While I had my short week with her, my mom and I decided to head out to Solomons Island and show her the cute little shops and eat on the water.

We lollygagged around the shops and just as I suspected had the great enjoyment of listening to her tell us which outfits she truly disdained. The womans got style, she’s picked at least 5 pieces in my wardrobe and girlfriend refuses to buy anything she refers to as a “tent, sausage casing, or moving patterned mountain.” God love her. Walking further down the street we happened upon The Tiki Bar. I said I’d never been and grandma claiming the same, immediately decided we would all go in and have ourselves a little cocktail. A small bar which holds once a year “opening”, attracting a horde of all that is wife beaters, Redskins jerseys, tourists, locals, and the unsuspecting family’s who I don’t feel bad for because they should of researched more. The rest of the 3 months they’re open it’s simply a grungy bar on the water, slightly sagging in structure, and turns out quite a bit of fun if you go midday with three generations of women. Tis a place to spill your beer on the floor with not a single judging eye shooting towards you. Leaving ear tingling tipsy we headed for much needed food at a restaurant on the water.

Another cocktail in, tacos, and the delightful conversation shared made for the perfect ending to the day.We all have women in our lives that As the years pass and we get older we begin to understand the importance of people in our lives. We notice more than ever how time is precious and the tuck each time spent together deep into our memories so they may be shared with future generations. We all have women in our lives who teach us how to act, tell us stories to learn from their mistakes and if your lucky, make you go to a Tiki Bar and laugh so hard you almost fall off your bar stool. Let us consider ourselves lucky not only to have these women in our lives but to be able to call them grandma. Love you G!
