Tips for creating your ideal home office

Tips for creating your ideal home office

Many of us have made the switch to working from home and are really feeling the benefits. Despite this, some of us haven’t quite got our home office sorted yet. But continuing to work from home without a good space to work isn’t practical or productive. So, perhaps it’s time to get that home office set up how we want it.

Make the right decisions

Before you start trying to create your home office, have a good think about how you work and the space you need.
Everyone’s job is a bit different, so it makes sense that home offices should be too. If you mostly work on a laptop, you won’t need much surface or desk space. However, if you use a desktop computer, spend time sketching or like to spread notes out, then plenty of desk space is important. And if you are in a creative job, a desk that can tilt may be a consideration too.

Don’t stick to the rules

Some rules just don’t need to be adhered to. We’ve all worked in bland office spaces. But when you’re at home, don’t feel you need to decorate the room in the same utilitarian way. If you’re working in a space that makes you feel happy, then you’re more likely to be productive. If you want
patterned wallpaper, then go for it. Or you may fancy splashing out on the cost of carpet fitting, to create a cozy, welcoming room. It’s not conventional, but it’s your space. And you’re going to be spending a lot of time there, so it needs to feel comfortable.

Get the light right

One thing you should have though, is natural light. There’s really no replacement for letting the sunlight in through your windows.
But don’t stop there. Make sure you have light exactly where you need it. If you’re doing intricate work, then a desk or task lamp will help enormously. Equally, you don’t want sunlight glaring onto your computer screen and stopping you from being able to see what you’re typing. So put some thought into getting the light right.

Make it inspirational and aspirational

Your workspace should be both inspirational and aspirational. Helping your creativity and making you feel like you can achieve everything you desire. Decorating your home office in your style, with the things you love around you, will help it become an inspiring place to work. By getting elements such as your desk and the lighting right will help you focus and be productive. Helping you reach your goals easier.
